Installation

Minimal Tray Tasker is distributed as a standalone desktop application. Follow the instructions below to install it on your operating system.

System Requirements

Before installing, ensure your system meets these requirements:
  • Operating System: Windows 10+, macOS 10.15+, or Linux (most distributions)
  • Disk Space: ~50 MB for the application
  • RAM: 100 MB minimum (with Ram Saver enabled)

Download from Releases

  1. Visit the Releases page on GitHub
  2. Download the latest version for your operating system
  3. Follow the OS-specific installation instructions below

Windows Installation

Download the .exe or .msi installer from the releases page.Using the .msi installer (Recommended):
  1. Double-click the downloaded .msi file
  2. Follow the installation wizard
  3. The app will be installed to C:\Program Files\Minimal Tracker
  4. Launch from the Start menu or Desktop shortcut
Using the .exe installer:
  1. Double-click the .exe file
  2. Choose your installation directory
  3. Complete the installation
  4. The app will start automatically
Windows may show a SmartScreen warning for unsigned applications. Click “More info” and then “Run anyway” to proceed with the installation.

First Launch

After installation:
  1. The application will appear in your system tray (notification area)
  2. Click the tray icon to open the task manager window
  3. You’re ready to start tracking tasks!
If autostart is enabled (default), Minimal Tray Tasker will automatically launch when your system starts.

Troubleshooting

Make sure your system tray is visible and not hidden. On Windows, check “Show hidden icons” in the taskbar settings. On Linux, some desktop environments require a system tray extension.
Right-click the app in Finder, select “Open” and confirm you want to open it. This only needs to be done once.
The app uses SQLite to store tasks locally. Ensure you have write permissions in your user directory where the app stores its data.
