The motions board is the heart of Chair Tools. Every motion proposed during your committee session appears here as a card showing the proposing country, the motion text, and the topic. Chairs can pass or fail each motion in real time, and the board keeps a running log of the entire session so nothing gets lost.

Adding a Motion

1

Open the Add a Motion dialog

Click the + button in the top bar.
2

Select the proposing country

Choose the delegate’s country from the dropdown menu. Make sure you’ve added countries via ⚙ Settings first — the dropdown will be empty otherwise.
3

Enter a topic

Type a topic in the Topic field. If you leave it blank, the topic defaults to “Solutions” automatically.
4

Choose the motion type

Click one of the motion type buttons. For timed motions, a follow-up dialog will ask for the duration.

Motion Types

Click Open Committee to add an untimed motion that opens the committee for general debate. No duration is required — the motion is added immediately and no timer is started when it is passed.

Passing and Failing Motions

Each motion card displays two action buttons on the right:
  • ✅ (Pass) — marks the motion as passed, turns the card background green, and if the motion has a non-zero timer value, opens the timer dialog and starts the countdown automatically.
  • ❌ (Fail) — marks the motion as failed and turns the card background red.
Once a motion is passed or failed, the corresponding button is removed and replaced with a smaller indicator, preventing accidental double-clicking.

Editing and Deleting

Two utility buttons appear at the bottom-right corner of every motion card:
  • ✏ (Edit) — opens an inline editing popup where you can modify the motion text, then click Submit to save your changes.
  • X (Delete) — removes the motion from the board entirely. This action cannot be undone.
Motions remain visible on the board after being passed or failed. This gives the chair a continuous log of everything that has happened during the session without needing a separate notes document.
