MUN Chair Tools includes a visual circular countdown timer rendered as an SVG ring. As time elapses, the colored arc shrinks toward zero, giving every delegate in the room an at-a-glance sense of how much time remains. The timer can be started manually via the button or triggered automatically when a timed motion is passed.

Timer Controls

The timer dialog exposes four control buttons displayed in the lower portion of the circular timer face.
ButtonAction
🔄Reset the countdown back to the original set duration
Start the timer if paused; pause the timer if running
Reset the timer, then display “Time’s Up!” with the ring set to red
Add 10 seconds to the current remaining time

Color Indicators

The ring color changes automatically as the countdown approaches zero, providing a clear visual warning without requiring the chair to watch the numbers.
ColorCondition
🟢 GreenMore than 10 seconds remaining
🟠 Orange10 seconds or fewer and more than 5 seconds remaining
🔴 Red5 seconds or fewer remaining; also shown when time expires

Setting a Custom Timer

You can open the timer at any duration independent of any motion using the button in the top bar.
1

Open the Custom Timer dialog

Click the button in the top bar.
2

Enter the duration

Type a value in the Minutes field, the Seconds field, or both. You can use either field on its own — for example, enter 90 in Seconds for a 1-minute-30-second timer.
3

Start the timer

Click Set. The timer dialog opens and begins counting down immediately.

Automatic Timer Start

When a motion that carries a non-zero time value is passed — such as a Round Robin, Unmoderated Caucus, or Moderated Caucus — Chair Tools automatically opens the timer dialog and begins the countdown. You do not need to set or start the timer manually; it triggers the moment you click ✅.
Use to extend the countdown mid-session if the chair decides to grant a delegate or the committee extra time. Each press adds exactly 10 seconds regardless of whether the timer is running or paused.
Closing the timer dialog pauses the countdown rather than stopping it. The remaining time is preserved. Click to resume from where you left off.
