Research projects are the core of each summer program cycle. A researcher proposes a project, a coordinator validates it, and once validated it becomes visible to students in the catalog. Students can then browse and apply to projects they are interested in. Coordinators and institutional coordinators who create projects directly skip the pending step and are published immediately.

Researcher workflow

When you are logged in as a researcher (role 4), campus coordinator (role 3), or institutional coordinator (role 2), you can propose new projects from your My Projects dashboard.
1

Open the project form

Click My Projects in the navigation menu, then click Propose new project. The form will not open if you have already reached the project limit for the active summer period.
2

Fill in the project details

Complete all required fields (see the table below). Select the research area, modality, and the minimum career progress percentage a student must have to be eligible for assignment to this project.
3

Submit for validation

Submit the form. If you are a researcher (role 4), your project is saved with isValid = 0 and appears as pending validation in your project list. If you are a coordinator (role 2 or 3), your project is published immediately with isValid = 1.
4

Coordinator validation

A campus or institutional coordinator reviews your proposal. They can toggle the validation status on or off via the toggle_project_validation action. Once isValid is set to 1, the project appears in the student catalog.

Required fields when creating a project

FieldDescription
titleProject title
careerTarget career / academic program
activityMain research activities the student will perform
skillsSkills or competencies required from the student
modalityDelivery modality (e.g., in-person, remote)
observationsAdditional notes or requirements
studentAmountNumber of student slots available
idAreaResearch area (selected from the configured area list)
careerProgressPercentageMinimum degree completion percentage required for eligible students (integer)
The profile field is set to a default value automatically. The project is also automatically linked to your campus, institution, and the active summer period.

Project limits per summer period

Each summer period configuration includes a pendingResearchProjects value that caps how many projects a single researcher can propose. If you have already reached that limit, the Propose new project button redirects you back to My Projects with an error message. The limit applies per researcher per summer period, so your count resets for each new edition of the program.

Validation toggle

Coordinators (roles 1, 2, 3) access the institution project list and can open any project’s detail page to approve or reject it. The toggleValidation action accepts a status parameter: 1 to approve and 0 to reject. A project can be toggled back and forth until the summer period closes.
When a coordinator or institutional coordinator creates a project themselves (rather than a researcher), the platform sets isValid = 1 automatically at creation time — no separate validation step is needed.

Student catalog

Students (role 5) and coordinators (roles 1, 2, 3) can browse the validated project catalog at View Projects. The catalog supports the following filters:
  • Keyword search — matches against the project title.
  • Area filter — narrows results to a specific research area.
  • Modality filter — filters by delivery modality.
Results are paginated at 15 projects per page. Navigate between pages using the page controls at the bottom of the list.

Project detail view

Click any project card to open its detail page. The detail page shows the full project description, the researcher’s name, department, research area, campus, institution, required career progress, and the number of available student slots. If you are a student and the application window is open, you can apply directly from this page.
