Verano Regional is a multi-role web platform built for regional scientific research summer programs. It automates every stage of the program — from account registration and project proposals to student-project allocation, progress reporting, and certificate generation — giving students, researchers, and coordinators a single place to manage their participation.

Key features

OTP-verified registration

Users verify their institutional email with a one-time password before completing their profile, preventing unauthorized signups.

Project proposal and validation

Researchers submit projects during open windows. Coordinators validate them before students can browse or apply.

Prioritized applications

Students apply to up to five projects and rank them by preference. The allocation algorithm uses those rankings alongside GPA and career progress.

Automated allocation

The administrator triggers a single allocation run that assigns every eligible student to a project based on configurable criteria.

Report upload and review

Assigned students upload progress reports. Researchers review and approve them directly in the platform.

Certificate generation

The platform automatically issues participation certificates once a student’s report is approved and the program period closes.

User roles

Verano Regional uses five roles. Each role unlocks a different set of screens and actions.
RoleIDResponsibilities
Admin1Manages summer periods, institutions, campuses, users, and runs the allocation process.
Institutional Coordinator2Oversees all activity across institutions; validates researcher profiles and projects at the institutional level.
Campus Coordinator3Validates student and researcher profiles for their campus; approves project proposals at the campus level.
Researcher4Proposes research projects, manages project details, and reviews student reports.
Student5Completes a profile, applies to available projects, uploads documents, submits reports, and receives certificates.

Program phases

The administrator defines time-gated phases for each summer period. Access to certain actions depends on which phase is currently active:
  1. Registration — Users create and verify accounts, then complete their profiles.
  2. Project proposals — Researchers submit and coordinators validate projects.
  3. Applications — Students browse validated projects and submit prioritized applications.
  4. Allocation — The admin runs the allocation algorithm; results are published to all users.
  5. Reports — Assigned students upload progress reports; researchers approve or request revisions.
  6. Certificates — The platform generates and makes participation certificates available for download.
Actions outside the current phase are disabled automatically. For example, students cannot apply to projects once the application window closes.
