Commuter Mode is built for trips you make every day. Save any connection as a commuter route and SmartMove shows you the next available departure for that route each time you open the app — no searching required.

How it works

Each saved commuter route stores your origin, destination, and the connection details. When you open the home screen, SmartMove sorts your commuter routes by the departure closest to the current time, so the route you need next appears at the top.

Adding a commuter route

1

Search for your connection

Use Route Search to find the connection you travel regularly. Enter your usual departure stop and destination.
2

Open the route detail

Tap the connection result you want to save to open the full trip breakdown.
3

Save to Commuter Mode

Tap the lightning bolt (Zap) icon or the Save to Commuter button in the detail view. SmartMove saves the full route — origin, destination, and the complete trip data — to your commuter routes list.
4

Access from the home screen

Your commuter routes now appear in the Commuter Mode section of the home screen, sorted by the next upcoming departure.

Viewing your commuter routes

The Commuter Mode section on the home screen shows a card for each saved route. Each card displays:
  • Route label — A custom name you can set, or the auto-generated “From → To” label
  • Departure and arrival times — The next departure for this connection
  • Duration — Total travel time
  • Leg strip — Colour-coded bar showing each transport mode in the journey
  • Connection status — Whether the next connection is upcoming or has already departed
Routes are automatically sorted so the connection departing soonest is at the top of the list. Past departures fall to the bottom.

Tapping a commuter route

Tap any commuter route card to jump straight to the full connection detail view for that route. From there you can:
  • See the full stop-by-stop breakdown
  • Check live delay information
  • Start route following on the map
If the saved connection time has passed, tap the card to open route search with the same origin and destination pre-filled so you can find the next available departure.

Renaming a route

1

Open the edit menu

Tap the pencil icon on any commuter route card.
2

Enter a new label

Type a descriptive name, such as “Morning commute” or “Bolzano → Merano”.
3

Save

Tap the check icon to confirm. The new label appears on the card immediately.

Removing a commuter route

Tap the trash icon on a commuter route card to remove it from your list. The route is deleted immediately. This action cannot be undone, but you can re-add the route at any time by searching again and saving it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Commuter routes are stored locally on your device using your browser’s localStorage. The saved route information — origin, destination, times, and leg data — is available without a network connection. However, fetching live delay data for upcoming departures does require an internet connection.
If you are signed in to a SmartMove account, commuter routes sync automatically to the cloud via Supabase. When you sign in on another device, your routes appear there as well. Without an account, routes are stored only on the device where you saved them.
There is no hard limit on the number of commuter routes you can save. For the best experience, keep your list to the routes you travel most regularly — typically five to ten routes.
SmartMove automatically sorts routes by the next upcoming departure time, so the route you need soonest is always first. Manual reordering is not currently available.
