Install Extras is a separate setup mode designed for optional channels and system utilities that sit outside the main Express or Custom install flows. Use it after you have already run an Express or Custom install, or on its own if you only need one of the additional channels. The mode covers the Wii Speak Channel, the Today and Tomorrow Channel, and a choice between two methods for restoring Photo Channel 1.1.Documentation Index

Installation Steps
Select Install Extra Channels from the main menu
Launch the WiiLink Patcher and press 3 at the main menu — Install Extra Channels (Optional).
Choose a Photo Channel restoration method
The first prompt asks how you want to handle Photo Channel 1.1 restoration. Two options are available:The choice you make here determines which files appear in the channel selection list on the next screen:
System Channel Restorer
A homebrew application that installs Photo Channel 1.1 directly to your console over its own internet connection. More flexible for real-hardware users who want a proper channel restore, but requires Wi-Fi or LAN access on the Wii itself and is harder to use with Dolphin.
Offline WADs
Traditional WAD files for Photo Channel 1.1 and the Internet Channel (USA, Europe, Japan). Easier to use in all environments — no internet connection on the console is required, and it integrates naturally with Dolphin’s WAD installer.
System Channel Restorer requires an active internet connection on your Wii console at the time it runs. The homebrew app contacts WiiLink’s servers directly from the console to perform the installation. If your Wii cannot reach the internet, choose Offline WADs instead.
- System Channel Restorer selected →
scr(System Channel Restorer homebrew app) is automatically added to your install; the Offline WADs (Photo Channel 1.1, Internet Channel) are not listed - Offline WADs selected → Photo Channel 1.1, Internet Channel (USA), Internet Channel (Europe), and Internet Channel (Japan) are added to the selection list
Select extra channels to install
A paginated selection list appears (up to 9 channels per page). Toggle channels on and off with number keys 1–9, navigate pages with the arrow keys, and press Enter to confirm. The channels available in this step are:
- Wii Speak Channel (USA, Europe, Japan)
- Today and Tomorrow Channel (Europe, Japan)
- If Offline WADs was chosen: Photo Channel 1.1, Internet Channel (USA / Europe / Japan)
Choose your platform
Select the platform you are installing onto:
Selecting Dolphin Emulator skips the SD card step and saves all output locally for import through Tools → Install WAD… in the Dolphin interface.
| Choice | Platform |
|---|---|
| 1 | Wii |
| 2 | vWii (Wii U) |
| 3 | Dolphin Emulator |
Review and confirm your selection
A summary screen shows your selected extra channels and chosen platform before patching begins. Choose:
- Yes — proceed to the SD card step and start patching
- No, start over — clears all selections and returns to Step 1
- No, go back to Main Menu — clears all selections and exits Install Extras
Insert your SD card
The patcher auto-detects any connected removable drive. Choose how to handle the output:
- Start with SD Card / USB Drive — files are copied to the root of the detected drive automatically when patching finishes
- Start without SD Card / USB Drive — files are saved to a
WiiLink/folder next to the patcher on your computer - Manually select SD Card / USB Drive path — enter the drive letter or mount path yourself
Patching runs automatically
No further input is needed after the SD card step. The patcher downloads each selected channel’s files, processes them, and copies the finished WAD and apps folders to your SD card or the local
WiiLink/ folder. When done, the patcher shows a Patching Completed! screen. For extras installs, it directs you to install the resulting WADs using a WAD manager such as YAWM ModMii Edition (for Wii / vWii) or the built-in WAD installer in Dolphin.Extra Channels Reference
