The Properties tab is the first stop when creating or editing a channel. It controls how the channel is identified in the Tunarr UI, how it appears in your IPTV client’s channel list and guide, and a few behavioral options such as on-demand mode. Most of these settings can be changed at any time without affecting your programming lineup.

Settings Reference

Name
string
required
The display name for the channel. This label appears in the Tunarr channel list, in your IPTV client’s channel guide, and in the M3U playlist. Choose something descriptive — for example, Sci-Fi Movies 24/7 or The Office Marathon.
Channel Number
number
The virtual channel number assigned to this station. This number is included in the M3U playlist and is used by IPTV clients to sort and dial channels. Numbers do not have to be sequential, but must be unique across all your channels.
Group
string
A free-text group label that is written into the M3U playlist as the group-title attribute. IPTV clients use this tag to group channels into categories — for example, you could group all movie channels under Movies and all TV show channels under TV Shows. Clients that support category views (Jellyfin, Plex, Channels DVR) will display channels in their respective groups.
Channel Icon
image / URL
The logo image displayed in your IPTV client’s channel guide. Transparent PNG files are recommended for the best appearance on dark guide backgrounds. See Channel Icon below for the three possible states.
On-Demand
boolean
default:"false"
Controls whether the channel behaves like a streaming service or like traditional TV.
  • Disabled (default) — The channel’s watch state advances continuously, exactly like a live broadcast. Whether or not anyone is actively watching, the schedule progresses in real time.
  • Enabled — Watch state only advances while a client is actively streaming the channel, similar to a video-on-demand service. The lineup “pauses” when no one is watching.

Channel Icon

The channel icon has three distinct states you can cycle between:
StateDescription
Custom iconUpload an image file or paste an image URL. This image appears in your IPTV client’s guide, in watermark overlays, and throughout the Tunarr UI. Transparent .png files are fully supported.
Default logoWhen no custom icon has been set, Tunarr automatically uses its own default logo as a fallback. This is the out-of-the-box behavior for every new channel.
No iconClick the X button next to the icon preview to remove the icon entirely. In this state, no icon is written to the M3U playlist, the XMLTV guide data, or any watermark overlay. To restore the default logo after removing the icon, click the restore button.
For the sharpest results in IPTV clients, use a square PNG with a transparent background at a minimum size of 256×256 pixels.

Next Steps

Once you have saved your channel properties, move on to the Programming tab to start building your lineup. If you want filler content between episodes, you can configure that on the Flex tab after adding your main programming.
