Smart Collections are saved searches. Unlike Filler lists or Custom Shows — both of which hold a fixed, manually curated set of items — a Smart Collection stores a query rather than a list of content. Every time a Smart Collection is accessed, Tunarr runs that query against your connected media sources and returns whatever currently matches. Add new content to your library that fits the search criteria and it will automatically be included the next time the collection is used — no manual updates needed.

Creating a Smart Collection

Smart Collections are created directly from the search interface rather than through a separate creation form.
1

Open the search interface

Navigate to the search or filter area in Tunarr where you can browse your media library content.
2

Build your search

Apply the filters or search terms that define the content you want in this collection.
3

Save as a Smart Collection

Once the search results look right, click the Save button on the search input. Tunarr saves the query as a named Smart Collection.

Using Smart Collections in Scheduling

Currently, the only way to use a Smart Collection is to assign it to a slot in either the Slot Editor or the Time Slot Editor. When Tunarr generates programming for that slot, it queries the Smart Collection at that moment and uses the results to fill the slot.
Smart Collections are queried at scheduled generation time. This means the content for a slot is determined when Tunarr builds the schedule. If your library changes after a schedule is generated, the new content will appear in the next schedule generation cycle.
