Feedback Boards are the core of Featul’s feedback management system. They provide a structured way to collect ideas, feature requests, bug reports, and other user input.

What are Feedback Boards?

A feedback board is a dedicated space for collecting specific types of feedback. Each board has its own URL, settings, and content, allowing you to organize feedback by category, product area, or audience. Boards can be:
  • Public: Visible to anyone with the link
  • Private: Accessible only to workspace members
  • Anonymous-friendly: Allow submissions without user accounts
  • Comment-enabled: Foster discussion around each post

Creating a Feedback Board

  1. Navigate to your workspace settings
  2. Go to the Boards section
  3. Click “Create Board”
  4. Configure:
    • Name: Display name for the board (e.g., “Feature Requests”)
    • Slug: URL-friendly identifier (e.g., feature-requests)
    • Visibility: Public or private
    • Access: Allow anonymous submissions
    • Comments: Enable or disable commenting
Create separate boards for different feedback types: “Feature Requests”, “Bug Reports”, “Improvements”, etc.

Board Settings

Visibility & Access

Public Boards: Anyone can view posts and submit new feedback. Ideal for collecting wide user input. Private Boards: Only workspace members can access. Perfect for internal feedback, beta features, or sensitive topics. Allow Anonymous: When enabled on public boards, users can submit feedback without creating an account. Anonymous users are tracked via browser fingerprints to prevent abuse. Hide Member Identity: Optionally hide workspace member names when they post to public boards, showing only their role.

Comments

Allow Comments: Enable threaded discussions on posts. Users can reply to comments, mention team members, and react with upvotes/downvotes. Disable Comments: Lock all commenting on the board. Useful for announcement-only boards or when you want to focus purely on vote counts.

Moderation

Status Workflow: Posts can be in various states:
  • Published: Visible on the board
  • Pending Approval: Awaiting moderator review
  • Draft: Saved but not published
  • Spam: Flagged as spam and hidden
  • Archived: Removed from active view but preserved
Auto-Moderation: Configure whether new posts are auto-published or require approval. Protect against spam while maintaining a smooth user experience.

Submitting Feedback

User Submission Flow

When a user wants to submit feedback:
  1. Click “Submit Feedback” or similar call-to-action
  2. Fill in the post form:
    • Title: Brief, clear description
    • Content: Detailed explanation, use cases, context
    • Image: Optional screenshot or mockup (supports common formats)
    • Board: Select which board to submit to
    • Tags: Add relevant tags for categorization
  3. View similar posts to prevent duplicates
  4. Submit for immediate publication or moderator review

Similar Posts Detection

As users type their title and content, Featul automatically searches for similar existing posts. This helps:
  • Reduce duplicate submissions
  • Consolidate votes on similar ideas
  • Save time for both users and moderators
Similar post detection uses content fingerprinting and title matching to find potentially duplicate feedback.

Image Uploads

Users can attach images to illustrate their feedback:
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP
  • Images are uploaded to secure cloud storage
  • Displayed inline with the post content

Managing Posts

Post Statuses

Every post has a moderation status and (optionally) a roadmap status. Moderation Status:
  • Published, Pending, Draft, Spam, Archived
Roadmap Status (for boards linked to roadmaps):
  • Pending, Review, Planned, In Progress, Completed, Closed
Team members can update statuses from the post detail page or roadmap board.

Tagging & Organization

Tags help categorize and filter posts:
  • Create workspace-level tags
  • Assign multiple tags to each post
  • Filter board views by tag
  • Use tags in roadmap planning
Common tag examples: mobile, api, performance, ux, enterprise

Pinning Posts

Pin important posts to the top of your board:
  • Feature announcements
  • Top-voted requests
  • Critical bugs
  • Popular discussions
Pinned posts remain at the top regardless of votes or date.

Locking Posts

Lock posts to prevent new comments and votes:
  • After implementing a feature
  • When consolidating into another post
  • For outdated or no-longer-relevant feedback
Locked posts display a lock icon and explanation message.

Voting on Posts

Voting is the primary way users express support for feedback.

How Voting Works

  • Each user can upvote a post once
  • Anonymous users are tracked via browser fingerprint
  • Votes are tallied in real-time
  • Posts are sorted by vote count (configurable)
  • Users can remove their vote anytime
Vote counts help you prioritize features based on genuine user demand, not just internal assumptions.

Vote Analytics

Track voting patterns to understand:
  • Most-requested features
  • Community priorities
  • Trending topics
  • Engagement levels

Post Merging

Consolidate duplicate or similar posts to centralize feedback:
  1. Identify duplicate posts
  2. Select “Merge” from the post menu
  3. Choose target post to merge into
  4. Optionally transfer:
    • Vote counts
    • Comments
    • Tags
  5. Source post is marked as duplicate and redirects to target
Post merging cannot be undone. Ensure you’re merging the correct posts before confirming.

Reporting & Moderation

User Reports

Users can report inappropriate posts or comments:
  • Spam
  • Harassment
  • Inappropriate content
  • Off-topic
  • Other (with description)
Reports go to workspace moderators for review.

Moderator Actions

Review Reports: View all pending reports in the moderation queue Mark as Spam: Hide posts and train spam filters Delete: Permanently remove posts or comments Edit: Fix typos, remove sensitive info, or clarify content Change Status: Move posts through your workflow Add Internal Notes: Leave private notes for team members

Moderation Queue

Access the centralized moderation queue to:
  • Review pending posts
  • Handle user reports
  • Bulk actions (approve, delete, tag)
  • Filter by board, status, reporter

Board Types

Standard Feedback Boards

General-purpose boards for any type of feedback collection.

Roadmap Boards

Special boards linked to your public roadmap with:
  • Kanban-style status columns
  • Drag-and-drop status updates
  • Customizable status workflows
  • Public visibility of progress
See Roadmaps for more details.

Changelog Boards

System boards that power your changelog feed:
  • Display completed work
  • Show recent updates
  • Link to related posts
  • Tag releases by category
See Changelogs for more details.

Best Practices

Clear Naming: Use descriptive board names that clearly indicate their purpose.
Set Expectations: Add a board description explaining what types of feedback you’re looking for.
Regular Review: Schedule time weekly to review new posts and update statuses.
Engage Users: Respond to posts with comments to show you’re listening and build community.
Deleting a board permanently removes all its posts, comments, and votes. Export data first if needed.

Integration with Other Features

  • Roadmaps: Link posts to roadmap items to show planned work
  • Changelogs: Reference board posts when shipping features
  • Voting: Prioritize based on vote counts
  • Comments: Gather detailed user input and requirements
  • Tags: Cross-reference feedback across multiple boards
