Synced vs. unsynced lyrics

Synced lyrics

Each line (or word) is timed to the audio. The current line is highlighted and the view scrolls to follow along as the song plays.

Unsynced lyrics

Plain text with no timestamps. Shown as a fallback when no synced version is available from any provider.

Live word-by-word highlighting

When a provider returns rich sync format — word-level timestamps embedded in the LRC data — Metrolist highlights each individual word as it is sung. This works for tracks from BetterLyrics, Paxsenix, and other providers that supply the <MM:SS.mm>word format.

Lyrics providers

Metrolist queries multiple providers and returns the first successful result. The default order is:
A dedicated lyrics service with rich sync support, including word-by-word and multi-voice (agent/background) metadata. Enabled by default and tried first. Can be individually disabled in Settings → Content.
Supplies rich sync lyrics with agent (v1:, v2:) and background ([bg: …]) vocal parts. Supports duet and multi-singer songs with proper left/right positioning when agent positioning is enabled.
A large open, community-curated LRC database. Returns standard synced LRC or plain-text lyrics. Good coverage for mainstream and independent releases.
A Chinese music platform with an extensive synced lyrics library. Particularly strong coverage for C-pop, K-pop, and J-pop.
Lyrics sourced through the LyricsPlus provider from SimpMusic, offering additional coverage for tracks not found elsewhere.
Auto-generated or human-uploaded subtitle tracks attached to the YouTube video. Timed to the video, but accuracy varies.
The lyrics panel served directly by YouTube Music for the track. Plain or lightly synced. Used as a last-resort fallback.

Provider priority

Metrolist tries providers in order, returning the first result that succeeds. You can reorder or disable individual providers in Settings → Content → Lyrics provider order. The configurable order is stored as a comma-separated list internally (e.g., BetterLyrics,Paxsenix,LrcLib,KuGou,LyricsPlus,YouTubeSubtitle,YouTube). Dragging providers in the settings UI updates this list. If a provider is disabled, it is skipped entirely even if it would otherwise be first in the list.
The legacy Preferred provider setting (single-choice) is still respected for backward compatibility, but the new per-provider ordering takes precedence when configured.

Interacting with lyrics

Jump to a line

Tap any lyric line to seek the song to that timestamp. This requires Lyrics click to be enabled — it is on by default. You can toggle it in Settings → Appearance → Lyrics → Lyrics click.

Auto-scroll

The lyrics view automatically scrolls to keep the current line visible. You can disable this in Settings → Appearance → Lyrics → Auto-scroll. When auto-scroll is active, manually dragging the list pauses automatic scrolling until the song advances to the next line.

Copy lyrics

Tap the copy button in the lyrics panel to copy all lyrics text to your clipboard. This was added in v13.4.0.

Appearance settings

Open Settings → Appearance → Lyrics to customize the lyrics display.

Text position

Choose Left, Center, or Right alignment for lyrics text.

Text size

Slider from 12 sp to 48 sp. Default is 24 sp.

Line spacing

Multiplier from 1.0 to 3.0. Default is 1.2×.

Animation style

Controls how the active line is highlighted. Choose from None, Fade, Glow, Slide, Karaoke, or Apple.

Glow effect

Adds a soft glow behind the active lyric line. Toggle on or off independently of the animation style.

Agent positioning

For multi-singer tracks, respects the left/right positioning metadata embedded by Paxsenix and compatible providers.

Animation style reference

For the most immersive experience, try the Karaoke or Apple animation style with the glow effect enabled. Adjust text size and line spacing to taste in Settings → Appearance → Lyrics.
