ExamPlatform uses a two-track evaluation model. Objective questions — MCQ and multi-select — are scored automatically the moment a student submits, with no examiner action required. Subjective questions — short answer, long answer, and image upload — follow a separate path that involves an optional AI first-pass and always ends with the examiner assigning the final grade. This split keeps turnaround fast for objective assessments while ensuring thoughtful, accountable grading for open-ended responses.

Objective answers (auto-graded)

MCQ and multi-select answers are evaluated immediately at submission using the answer key you defined in the question bank. Correct answers receive the full marks set for the question. If negative marking is enabled on the exam, wrong answers incur the negative mark value set per question. No manual action is needed — these scores are final as soon as the student submits.

Subjective answers — the grading flow

Short answer, long answer, and image-upload responses are placed in the evaluation queue. If AI evaluation is enabled for the exam, the AI engine runs a first-pass analysis and produces a suggested score before you open the answer. Your grade always takes precedence.
1

Open the evaluation list

Navigate to Evaluation & Results in the sidebar. The page lists every exam that has submitted attempts. Find the exam you want to grade and click into it to see the results table — one row per student showing their name, current marks, and published status.
2

Open a submission for grading

Click Grade Answer on the row of the student whose response you want to evaluate. The grading panel opens showing the full question text and the student’s submitted work.
3

Review the student's submitted work

The Student’s submitted work section shows:
  • For text responses (short or long answer): the answer the student typed during the exam.
  • For image-upload responses: the uploaded image alongside the OCR-extracted text that the platform extracted from the photo. Both are shown so you can check the OCR accuracy against the original handwriting.
  • If the student did not answer the question, the panel displays No answer submitted.
4

Consider the AI first-pass suggestion

If AI evaluation was enabled for this exam, an AI first-pass suggestion (not final) is shown alongside the student’s answer. This is an advisory score generated by the AI based on the student’s response and the reference answer from the question bank. If no suggestion is available for this particular answer, the panel reads No AI suggestion available for this answer — grade directly.Treat the AI suggestion as a starting point. You are not bound by it in any way.
5

Enter your grade and optional feedback

In the Your grade (final — overrides the AI suggestion) field, enter the marks you are awarding for this response. The value must be between zero and the maximum marks defined for the question. Optionally, add Feedback in the text field below — this note will be visible to the student once results are published and helps them understand where they lost marks or what they did well.
6

Submit the grade

Click Submit Grade. The grade is recorded, the answer is removed from the pending queue, and the student’s total marks are updated. Repeat this process for every subjective answer in the exam until the pending evaluations count reaches zero.

Publishing results

Once every subjective answer in an exam has been graded, the Publish Results button becomes active on the exam’s results page. Click it to release scores to students. Once published, students are notified and can view their results, including the feedback you provided on each subjective answer. Results cannot be published for an exam that still has ungraded subjective answers — the Pending Evaluations count on the dashboard will reflect this until all answers are graded.

Results table

The results table for each exam shows the following columns for each student:
ColumnContent
StudentStudent name and roll number.
MarksTotal marks obtained, combining auto-graded objective scores and examiner-graded subjective scores.
PublishedWhether the results for this student have been released. Updates to Published once you click Publish Results.
Grade AnswerOpens the grading panel for any remaining ungraded subjective answers for this student.
If no students have submitted for the exam yet, the table shows the message: No submitted attempts for this exam yet. If results have been graded but not yet published, the published results section shows: No published results yet for this exam.

Exam-level analytics

Once results are published, ExamPlatform surfaces performance analytics for the exam directly in the Evaluation & Results view:
  • Average score — the mean marks obtained across all students who submitted.
  • Highest score — the top individual mark in the cohort.
  • Lowest score — the lowest individual mark in the cohort.
  • Pass rate — the percentage of students who met or exceeded the passing percentage threshold (if one was set).
  • Score distribution chart — a visual histogram showing how scores are spread across the cohort, making it easy to spot whether the exam was too easy, too hard, or well-calibrated.
Analytics will appear once results are published. Before publication the analytics section shows a placeholder message.

Downloading reports

Three download options are available from the Evaluation & Results page:
  • Download PDF — generates a formatted PDF exam report covering student scores, statistics, and the score distribution chart.
  • Download Excel — exports the same data in an Excel workbook for further analysis or record-keeping.
  • Download CSV — exports the exam results data as a CSV file for use in spreadsheets or external reporting tools.
A separate Download Question Bank CSV button is also available. This exports the full question bank as a CSV file, generated server-side. Use it for archiving or sharing your question library with colleagues.
The AI first-pass suggestion is informational only. It is labelled explicitly as “not final” in the interface. The grade you enter in the Your grade field is always the mark that counts — it fully overrides the AI suggestion. ExamPlatform never publishes an AI score without examiner confirmation.
Make a habit of filling in the Feedback field for every subjective answer, even briefly. Students learn far more from targeted feedback — “Your answer correctly identified osmosis but did not explain the role of the semi-permeable membrane” — than from a number alone. Well-written feedback also reduces the number of re-evaluation requests you receive after results are published.
